Accra/New Delhi, 2nd July:
Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Ghana, members of the Indian diaspora in the West African nation expressed excitement and optimism about the strengthening of India-Ghana ties, particularly in trade, healthcare, and diplomacy.

PM Modi is set to embark on a five-nation tour starting July 2, with Ghana as the first stop. During the visit, he will address the Ghanaian Parliament, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so — a landmark moment in India’s engagement with Africa.

Diaspora Voices Support, Hope for Deeper Cooperation

Rajendra Mishra, a Ghanaian citizen of Indian origin residing in Accra for over a decade, said the community is thrilled. “We are very excited about PM Modi’s visit. His foreign policy has always prioritized the dignity and safety of Indians abroad. We hope this visit brings deeper cooperation in healthcare between India and Ghana,” he told ANI.

Echoing the sentiment, Priyanshi, another member of the Indian diaspora, described the visit as symbolic of growing friendship. “It is not just a diplomatic visit; it is a sign that Ghana and India are building a strong bond. PM Modi is an inspiration, and we hope he visits more often,” she said.

Aatish, who has been living in Ghana for 11 years, added, “This visit will boost trade and improve medical facilities. Ghana imports rice from India and exports many goods. We are thrilled by this development.”

Bilateral Talks and Regional Engagements on the Agenda

During his July 2–3 visit, PM Modi will hold key talks with Ghanaian President John Mahama, focusing on strengthening cooperation in energy, defence, economy, and development. His visit is also expected to bolster India’s ties with regional blocs like ECOWAS and the African Union.

As part of his cultural and diplomatic engagements, the Prime Minister will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park — a site dedicated to Ghana’s first President and a symbol of peace and African unity.

Collins Rawlings Nunyonameh, Executive Director of the park, underscored the visit’s significance: “This park honours Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who fought for Ghana’s independence through peaceful means. We are honoured to receive the Prime Minister of India. India and Ghana have enjoyed a strong relationship since our independence.”

PM Modi’s Five-Nation Tour

Following his visit to Ghana, the Prime Minister will travel to Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Namibia. He is scheduled to participate in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 5 and 6, further underscoring India’s commitment to building global partnerships.
