Qingdao, 27th June: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh held a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart Admiral Dong Jun on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting in Qingdao, China, on June 26. In a candid exchange, the Indian Defence Minister underscored the need to maintain peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and pressed for a structured roadmap for permanent engagement and de-escalation.
During the talks, Singh reiterated India’s longstanding demand for a permanent solution to the border demarcation issue and urged rejuvenation of established bilateral mechanisms to manage the situation effectively. Stressing the importance of good neighbourly conditions, he said such efforts are essential to realize mutual benefits and contribute to regional and global stability.
He also called for bridging the trust deficit created after the 2020 border standoff, urging action on the ground to restore confidence between the two nations.
The ministers agreed to continue diplomatic and military-level consultations to make progress on disengagement, de-escalation, and eventual delimitation using existing channels.
Marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and China, the Raksha Mantri noted this milestone as an opportunity to rejuvenate ties and appreciated the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra after a five-year suspension.
Rajnath Singh also briefed Admiral Dong on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed multiple civilian lives in April 2025, and updated him on India’s ongoing Operation Sindoor, launched to dismantle terror infrastructure emanating from Pakistan.
