Mohali, 27th June: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted seven accused, including three absconders, in connection with the grenade attack on Ghanie Ke Bangar Police Station in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, carried out by operatives of the pro-Khalistan outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in December 2024.
The attack, which occurred on December 12, 2024, was claimed on social media by US-based BKI terrorist Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia and Gurpreet alias Gopi, officials said on Friday.
Key Accused Named
The chargesheet, filed on Thursday before a special NIA court in Mohali, names the following three absconders:
- Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia (based in the United States)
- Harwinder Singh alias Rinda (based in Pakistan)
- Shamsher Singh alias Shera alias Honey (based in Armenia)
The four arrested individuals named in the chargesheet are:
- Kuljit Singh
- Abhijot Singh
- Gurjinder Singh
- Shubham
All four are residents of Qila Lal Singh village in Batala, Punjab, the NIA said in an official statement.
The seven accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Explosive Substances Act, and other relevant laws for their involvement in the planning and execution of the attack.
Foreign-Backed Terror Conspiracy
The NIA revealed that Rinda, a Pakistan-based terrorist, directed Happy Passia to execute the attack. In turn, Passia recruited Abhijot Singh via his contact Shamsher Singh in Armenia. Upon returning to India from Armenia, Abhijot became actively involved in the logistics of the operation, including transporting weapons and explosives.
He later recruited Kuljit Singh and others into the gang. On December 9, 2024, Kuljit Singh picked up the grenade that was ultimately used in the attack, the agency said.
The NIA further confirmed that Abhijot Singh has also been arrested in a separate case involving a targeted shooting incident in Sector 10, Chandigarh.
Continued Crackdown on BKI Network
The NIA took over the investigation on March 23, 2025, and has since uncovered a transnational terror conspiracy, with handlers based in Pakistan, the US, and Armenia coordinating recruitment and attacks in India.
The agency stated that investigations are ongoing as part of efforts to dismantle Babbar Khalsa International’s terror network operating within the country.
