New Delhi, 25th June: A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 19-year-old woman by pushing her off the fifth-floor rooftop of her residence in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar. The accused, identified as Taufeeq, a native of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody late Tuesday night after a brief period in hiding.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday morning and was reported to Jyoti Nagar Police Station around 8:30 am. The victim, Neha, was discovered in a critical condition and was immediately rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later in the day.

Shockingly, police revealed that Taufeeq disguised himself in a burqa to enter the building without being recognised by Neha’s family or neighbours. CCTV footage from the locality confirmed the entry and exit of a person in burqa, prompting suspicion and further probe. During interrogation, Taufeeq confessed to using the disguise to gain direct access to Neha’s home without alerting anyone.

Investigators have also recovered multiple surveillance videos to reconstruct the timeline of events. Preliminary reports suggest that Taufeeq and Neha were in a relationship for several months. A dispute reportedly broke out between the two on the rooftop after Neha learned that Taufeeq was set to marry another woman, as arranged by his family. The argument allegedly escalated, leading to Neha being pushed off the rooftop.

However, Neha’s family disputes the claim of any romantic involvement. Her father told the media that Neha tied a rakhi to Taufeeq and considered him a brother. “We had known him for almost three years. He often visited our home, and there was never anything inappropriate,” he stated.

The case has triggered public outrage, with many calling for swift justice. Delhi Police said further investigation is underway, including a deeper probe into Taufeeq’s motive, phone records, and background.
