Ahmedabad Plane Crash: DNA Match Confirmed for 202 Victims; 157 Bodies Handed Over

Ahmedabad, 18th June: In a major development in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad plane crash that claimed 241 lives, DNA testing has confirmed the identities of 202 victims, with 157 bodies already handed over to their families. The tragic crash left only one survivor.

According to official sources, the identification and release of the remaining victims are at various stages. DNA results are still awaited for 5 bodies, while 15 remain pending due to the need for additional familial samples. Another 10 bodies are currently being processed for handover.

Bodies Dispatched Across India and Abroad
Among the deceased, two bodies have been sent to foreign countries, and 11 were transported to other Indian states. The majority of the deceased—largely Indian nationals—were returned to families in Gujarat by road.

The victims included 123 Indian nationals, 27 British nationals, 4 Portuguese citizens, and 1 Canadian. Authorities confirmed that 4 of the 241 fatalities were not passengers but individuals on the ground who lost their lives due to the crash’s impact.

Only Survivor Discharged; 7 Still Hospitalised
The only survivor, Vishwaskumar Ramesh, was discharged from hospital at 7:30 PM on Tuesday. His family had flown in from the UK earlier this week. Tragically, a patient who was on a ventilator with critical burn injuries succumbed on Tuesday, bringing the total death toll among the initially injured to three.

Currently, 7 patients remain admitted at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, and 12 others are under treatment in hospitals across Gujarat, including Zydus and Apollo. On the day of the crash, Civil Hospital had received 71 injured passengers.

No Fatalities Among Medical Students Post-Admission
Amid circulating rumours, Dr. Joshi clarified that no BJ Medical College student died after hospital admission. All student casualties had been declared dead on arrival following the crash.
