New Delhi, 14th June:
After enduring weeks of extreme heatwave conditions, North India is finally set to experience significant relief starting this weekend, according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A change in weather patterns is expected to bring cooler temperatures, increased cloud cover, and rainfall to several states, mitigating the scorching summer impact.

Temperatures are predicted to drop notably from Saturday. The maximum temperature is likely to decrease to around 41 degrees Celsius, with the minimum settling near 29 degrees Celsius. This cooling trend will intensify further on Saturday, June 15, when the maximum temperature is expected to fall to 40 degrees Celsius, and the minimum to 28 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also forecast for these days, offering much-needed respite from the oppressive heat.

Delhi, currently experiencing temperatures around 44 degrees Celsius, is also poised for a noticeable dip. By June 15 or 16, the national capital’s daytime temperature could drop to approximately 40 degrees Celsius. Light to very light rainfall and thunderstorm activity are specifically forecast for some areas of Delhi during this period.

The IMD further predicts that on June 16 and 17, skies will remain mostly cloudy across much of North India. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in several regions, which will further improve overall weather conditions.

Despite the approaching relief, the IMD has issued a series of alerts:

  • Red Alert: Punjab and Haryana are under a Red Alert for the next two days due to persistent heat and potential thunderstorms.
  • Orange Alert: Rajasthan, which was under a Red Alert on Friday, transitions to an Orange Alert for the following two days. Uttar Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir are also under an Orange Alert through the weekend.

Authorities are urging residents to continue taking precautions, including staying indoors during peak heat hours, remaining hydrated, and regularly monitoring official weather updates.
