New Delhi, 4th May: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally lead a green initiative by planting a Banyan tree at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi. This gesture is part of the ongoing ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign — a heartfelt movement encouraging citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers.

The tree plantation drive is aligned with the Aravalli Green Wall Project, a large-scale mission to reforest the 700-km stretch of the Aravalli hills across four states — Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The project aims to combat desertification, restore local ecosystems, and enhance water conservation while creating livelihood opportunities in surrounding communities.

In a bid to promote clean and sustainable urban transport, the Prime Minister will also flag off 200 electric buses under the Delhi Government’s eco-transport initiative. These zero-emission buses mark another step toward reducing pollution and making public transportation more environment-friendly.

With both environmental conservation and green mobility at the core, these initiatives reflect India’s growing commitment to protecting the planet while building a sustainable future.
