Tarn Taran, 3rd June: In a major security breach, a man from Punjab’s Tarn Taran district has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive military information related to the Indian Army’s movements during Operation Sindoor to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the Punjab Police said on Tuesday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the accused as Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, a resident of Mohalla Rodupur, Gali Nazar Singh Wali, Tarn Taran. The arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by Tarn Taran Police and the Counter Intelligence Wing.

“Arrested accused had been in contact with #Pakistan’s #ISI and Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla, sharing sensitive information concerning army movements during #OperationSindoor,” DGP Yadav said in a post on X.

Police recovered a mobile phone containing classified intelligence that Gagandeep allegedly passed on to Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs), along with details of over 20 ISI contacts.

Investigations have revealed that Gagandeep had been in communication with Chawla for the past five years and was introduced to PIOs through him. He is also accused of receiving payments through Indian financial channels for the information he provided.

The leaked intelligence included troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a grave threat to national security, officials said.

Operation Sindoor, conducted on May 7, was a high-level pre-dawn missile strike by Indian armed forces targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s stronghold in Muridke. The strikes were a retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

This is the second major crackdown in recent weeks. Earlier, six individuals — including a woman from Malerkotla — were arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan.
