Bhopal, 1st June: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has expressed strong concern after reports confirmed that all seven of its MLAs in Nagaland have officially joined the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). This move substantially strengthens Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s majority but raises serious questions about democratic representation and party loyalty.
NCP’s Chief National Spokesperson and National General Secretary, Shri Brijmohan Shrivastav, said the party will closely examine the situation under the law, including the Anti-Defection Act, to safeguard the mandate given to the NCP by Nagaland voters in the last Assembly elections.
Shrivastav added that the party intends to engage with the defecting MLAs to understand their reasons and to ensure that democratic norms and constitutional principles are respected.
Reassuring the people of Nagaland, Shrivastav reaffirmed the NCP’s commitment to upholding democratic values and protecting the trust placed in the party by its electorate. He stressed that the NCP will take all necessary legal and political measures to defend its interests and maintain faith among its supporters.
