New Delhi, 29th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed lakhs of farmers across the country as he launched the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a fresh initiative aimed at modernising Indian agriculture and ensuring farmers are ready for the upcoming Kharif season.
Speaking via videoconference, PM Modi said the next two weeks will witness a massive outreach effort, where over 2,000 teams of scientists, agricultural experts, and progressive farmers will travel to more than 700 districts to guide and assist farmers with modern techniques, relevant data, and practical advice. “Our scientists are moving from lab to land to help farmers right before the sowing season. This is a resolve to make agriculture the backbone of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India),” he said.
Giving Farmers the Tools to Grow Smart
The Prime Minister acknowledged that while agriculture has traditionally been a state subject, changing times call for new thinking and collective action. “Our farmers have produced record harvests. But markets are changing, and so are consumers. We must give our farmers the tools to adapt and thrive,” Modi noted.
He stressed that farmers shouldn’t have to rely on guesswork. Instead, they must have access to scientific insights, climate-smart advice, and modern machinery. “When knowledge reaches the farm, prosperity follows,” he added.
From Extra Income to Clean Energy
PM Modi also encouraged farmers to look beyond the harvest for income. He pointed to the installation of solar panels on field boundaries as a way to earn money from sunshine. He spoke of the growing success of beekeeping under the Sweet Revolution, and how agricultural waste is being turned into energy through initiatives like the Gobardhan Yojana.
“Even non-milking cattle are now helping the rural economy. Every part of farming has the potential to generate income,” he said, urging farmers to explore value addition and new markets.
A National Movement, Not Just a Government Program
The Prime Minister reminded officials and scientists involved in the campaign that this was not a routine job. “You are not just doing government work. This is a national mission. Talk to farmers, answer their questions, and learn from them too,” he said.
Concluding his address, PM Modi called upon all stakeholders to treat this as a turning point. “Let’s ensure Indian agriculture doesn’t just feed us but feeds the world. Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is the start of a new journey — one where science, sustainability, and the farmer walk hand in hand.”
