London: The cowardly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead, has sparked nationwide outrage and drawn strong global condemnation. Leaders from across the world, including former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former US President Donald Trump, expressed solidarity with India and the victims.
Rishi Sunak, in a heartfelt message on X, said, “The barbaric attack in Pahalgam has stolen the lives of newlyweds, children, and families seeking joy. Our hearts break for them. Britain stands with India in grief and unity. Terrorism will never prevail.”
Former US President Donald Trump, who spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the attack, called it a heinous act and pledged full support to bring the perpetrators to justice. “India and the United States stand united in the fight against terrorism,” said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, stating, “There can be no justification for such a brutal crime. The culprits must be punished.” Putin reiterated Russia’s unwavering support to India in combating terrorism.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the barbaric act that killed and wounded dozens of innocent civilians. Israel stands with India in its fight against terrorism.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also conveyed her condolences and expressed solidarity with the victims, their families, and the people of India.
Mass protests have erupted across India in response to the attack, demanding strict action against those responsible. With public sentiment running high, there is growing anticipation over the government’s next steps.
In a rare move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short an international visit and returned to India immediately, signaling the gravity of the situation. This marks the first such instance in his 11-year tenure—an indication that a strong response may be imminent.
