AIADMK Meeting Turns Stormy with Heated Arguments and Scuffle Among Grassroot Workers

Madurai, 25th Nov. The AIADMK’s meeting of its grassroot workers in Madurai on Monday, aimed at assessing the party’s internal strengths and weaknesses, descended into chaos as workers engaged in a scuffle and heated arguments in front of the party leadership.

The meeting, which began with opening remarks from three senior party leaders, quickly turned turbulent as workers demanded more time to voice their opinions. Tensions escalated between two groups, and when one member attempted to make a submission, he was reportedly pushed down, leading to a physical altercation between the factions.

Former state ministers Sellur Raju, Natham R. Viswanathan, and S. Semmalai intervened to calm the situation, assuring party members that they would be given ample time to express their concerns.

Despite the disruption, AIADMK’s Deputy General Secretary Natham Viswanathan downplayed the incident when speaking to the press, stating that “no clash” occurred, contrary to reports of a serious confrontation. He explained, “There was nothing of that nature. Party members were eager to express their views and we agreed to allow time for their concerns after the review.”

Viswanathan also highlighted that similar scenes of disagreement had unfolded at previous AIADMK meetings in Tirunelveli, Tiruchirappalli, and Kumbakonam since the party’s newly formed field study committee began its review process.

The committee, established by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, is tasked with evaluating the party’s activities at various levels and examining the functioning of its different wings. The ten-member panel, which includes senior leaders like K.P. Munusamy and Dindigul C. Srinivasan, will also verify whether party membership cards have been distributed to all enrolled members. The committee is set to submit its findings to Palaniswami by December 7.

In his opening remarks, Viswanathan outlined the key areas of the review, including an assessment of booth-level activities, the implementation of leadership directives, worker participation, and the functioning of booth committees. He stressed that the goal was to formulate an effective strategy for securing victory in the 2026 Assembly elections, urging members to focus on their duties to ensure a successful campaign.

“Only by working efficiently and focusing on our activities can we restore AIADMK rule,” Viswanathan concluded, setting the tone for the session.
