New Delhi, 23rd November. Congress leader Mumtaz Patel on Saturday expressed her joy over Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s impressive victory in the Wayanad bypoll, saying, “The good news is that we will now see Priyanka ji in Parliament.” Patel praised the Congress General Secretary’s landslide win in the Wayanad constituency, where she secured a commanding lead of over 6 lakh votes, further solidifying the Congress stronghold vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi. Priyanka Gandhi is contesting the seat against BJP’s Navya Haridas and CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri.

Patel also highlighted the party’s strong performance in other bypolls, stating that Congress was leading in Gujarat and all three seats in Karnataka, as well as in Jharkhand. However, she expressed her sadness over the underwhelming results from Maharashtra, where the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance was trailing behind.

“The party’s performance in Maharashtra is saddening. On this occasion, I remember my father, Ahmed Patel, because the Maha Vikas Aghadi was his brainchild. Ahmed Patel used to take decisions seriously, always involving everyone and keeping the party’s interests ahead of personal gains,” Patel said, reflecting on the difficult outcome in Maharashtra.

As of 1 PM, the Election Commission data indicated that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance was leading in 218 seats, with the BJP winning 2 seats and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) securing 1. In contrast, the MVA alliance, with Congress leading, was only leading in 47 seats, with Congress having a lead in just 20 constituencies.

Patel’s remarks underscore the mixed emotions within Congress as the party celebrates Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into Parliament while grappling with the challenges faced by the MVA in Maharashtra.
