Tamil Nadu, 8th July. On Monday, Udhayanidhi Stalin, a leader of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and a minister for Tamil Nadu, made an appeal to the people of Vikravandi seat to defeat Pattali Makkal Katchi, an associate of the Bharatiya Janata Party, by bringing up the NEET-UG problem and the BJP’s stance on it.
Speaking to an assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin declared, “It is evident that you have all chosen to support the DMK… The leaders of the northern states have begun to oppose the NEET exam, which was first voiced by the DMK.
I beg of you all to defeat the BJP in this bypoll because they are against it (opposing the NEET exam) and the PMK is running in coalition with them.” The Tamil Nadu assembly overwhelmingly approved a proposal to eliminate NEET nationwide earlier on June 28.
Following the illness-related death of DMK MLA N Pugazhendhi on April 6, the Vikravandi constituency became vacant. The DMK’s Anniyur Siva and the PMK’s C Anbumani, the party vice president, are predicted to compete.
The majority Vanniyar community in this area, followed by dalits, has candidates filed by both parties. The AIADMK made the decision to abstain from the elections on the grounds that the incumbent state administration will abuse its authority to sway the results in their favor. “DMK ministers, cadres will misuse the power of a ruling party, they will also unleash violence and lawlessness and not allow people to vote independently,” AIADMK chief Edappadi Palanisamy said.
Even though the DMK aims to go on its historic run in the state with its clean sweep of 39 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the recent hooch disaster in Kallakurichi, a neighboring district, could derail the party’s intentions. 65 people lost their life in the illicit liquor catastrophe, which also sparked several demonstrations in the state legislature.
