New Delhi, 9th June.
Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his incoming cabinet ministers, who are set to take the oath of office this evening at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Thakur, who previously held the sports, and information and broadcasting portfolios, has reportedly been excluded from the new cabinet, sources indicate.

“I extend my best wishes and congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his third term and heartiest wishes to all his ministers and may they do a wonderful job and take the country forward in the next 5 years,” Thakur told reporters.

Thakur is one of three former ministers—alongside Smriti Irani and Narayan Rane—who sources suggest will not be part of the Modi 3.0 cabinet. Unlike Irani, both Thakur and Rane secured victories in the recent general election, with Thakur winning from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur and Rane from Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Thakur bid farewell to the Modi 2.0 cabinet, which was dissolved following the election results on Tuesday.

“As I bid adieu to this amazing team, I am reminded that it is the dedication of each member that truly holds the strength. A great team can indeed move mountains,” his post read. He expressed his gratitude to PM Modi, adding, “Thank you to my wonderful team for making these years so memorable. Your invaluable contributions have played a crucial role in the Viksit Bharat journey, and you will always hold a special place in my heart.”

The council of ministers taking oath this evening is expected to include several NDA allies, as the BJP fell short of a majority for the first time in a decade. Key attention will be on Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party, which secured 16 seats, and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, contributing 12 seats to the NDA tally. The BJP won 240 seats, falling 32 seats short of a majority.
