Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla Assumes Charge as Chief of Personnel of Indian Navy

Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, AVSM, NM, assumed office as the Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy on May 10, 2024. With a distinguished career spanning 35 years, Vice Admiral Bhalla brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Commissioned into the Indian Navy on January 1, 1989, Vice Admiral Bhalla has served in various specialist, staff, and operational positions both at sea and ashore. His expertise in Communication and Electronic Warfare was honed through specialist courses and service aboard frontline warships.

Throughout his career, Vice Admiral Bhalla has commanded several notable vessels, including INS Nishank, INS Taragiri, INS Beas, and served as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet (FOCEF). His leadership during significant naval exercises and events, such as the President’s Fleet Review and the multinational exercise MILAN, has earned him acclaim.

In addition to his sea commands, Vice Admiral Bhalla has held important staff positions at Naval Headquarters, overseeing human resource development and officer training. His diplomatic assignment abroad underscores his multifaceted contributions to the Indian Navy’s global engagement.

Educationally, Vice Admiral Bhalla is an alumnus of prestigious institutions including the Royal College of Defence Studies, London, Naval War College, and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. His academic achievements include a Master of Philosophy in Defence & Strategic Studies and a Master’s in International Security and Strategic Studies from King’s College, London.

For his exemplary service, Vice Admiral Bhalla has been decorated with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Nao Sena Medal, and Commendations by senior naval authorities. His assumption of office as Chief of Personnel heralds a new chapter in the Indian Navy’s personnel management and strategic leadership.
