India and US Strengthen Security Cooperation in Homeland Security Dialogue

Senior officials from India and the United States met today in New Delhi for the India-U.S. Senior Officials’ Homeland Security Dialogue (HSD). The Indian delegation was led by Ajay Bhalla, Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, while the U.S. delegation was led by Kristie Canegallo, Acting Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The dialogue focused on strengthening cooperation in various areas of mutual concern, including counter-terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and transportation security. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to combating violent extremism, illegal migration, human trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime.

To enhance collaboration, the officials agreed to facilitate the exchange of information, capacity building, and technical assistance between their respective law enforcement agencies. Regular meetings of sub-groups established under the HSD framework will also continue.

The dialogue concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on law enforcement training between the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre and India’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy. This document signifies a commitment to deepening bilateral security cooperation.

Both sides agreed to hold the next round of the Senior Officials’ Homeland Security Dialogue in Washington D.C. at a mutually convenient date.
