Chhindwara, 29th Feb. A day after dispelling rumors about his potential defection to the BJP, long-standing Congress figure Kamal Nath conveyed to party members on Wednesday that he wouldn’t “impose” himself upon them and was willing to step back if desired.
Speaking at a gathering of party workers in Harrai, situated in his native constituency of Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh, the 77-year-old leader emphasized the enduring support and trust he has received from them over the years.
Acknowledging the longstanding support and trust he has received from the party workers over the years, Kamal Nath expressed his readiness to respect their decision. He reiterated that the choice to bid farewell to him rests entirely with the party members, highlighting the democratic ethos within the Congress.
Kamal Nath, who represents the Chhindwara assembly seat and has previously served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, assured the party workers not to succumb to panic despite the BJP’s aggressive projection. Encouraging them to vote for securing the future, he expressed confidence in their collective strength and resilience.
Referring to the construction of the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya, Kamal Nath underscored that the temple belongs to all, including himself, and should not be politicized by any particular party. He emphasized the religious harmony and cultural integrity upheld by the Congress, citing his own contributions to religious monuments in Chhindwara.
Responding to media speculations about his potential BJP affiliation, Kamal Nath dismissed them as mere “media creation,” urging reporters to verify facts before circulating such rumors. He clarified that he had not made any statements suggesting a switch and called upon the media to refrain from sensationalizing unsubstantiated claims.
Kamal Nath’s reassurance to the Congress cadre comes amidst heightened political scrutiny, emphasizing his commitment to the party’s principles and democratic ideals, while also addressing concerns raised by recent conjectures surrounding his political allegiance.
