Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Earth Sciences (MoES), inaugurated a captivating selfie point at the MoES headquarters located at Prithvi Bhavan, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

The highlight of the selfie point is a five-foot revolving globe intricately depicting Earth’s landscape, including continents, oceans, and vegetation. Designed to showcase the Earth’s beauty and highlight the importance of MoES services, the selfie point adds a dynamic element to public spaces, encouraging citizens, especially youth, to interact with MoES, particularly through social media platforms.

This initiative is aligned with MoES’s objective of fostering a deeper connection between the public and earth system sciences. By leveraging technology and outreach efforts, the selfie point aims to ignite curiosity and appreciation for the diverse landscapes of our planet.

Beyond its visual appeal, the MoES selfie point provides an opportunity for visitors, especially students, to engage with Earth’s geographical features, promoting self-expression and community involvement.

Minister Rijiju expressed his enthusiasm for the potential impact of the MoES selfie point, emphasizing its role in raising environmental awareness and promoting stewardship. He highlighted the importance of inviting citizens to interact with the selfie point and share their experiences online, potentially sparking a global conversation on the significance of preserving and protecting the planet for future generations.

As part of MoES’s broader outreach initiatives, the ministry actively collaborates with local governments, educational institutions, and community organizations to promote awareness about earth sciences.

The MoES selfie point, facilitated by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), is expected to attract visitors to capture selfies and admire the planet’s beauty, thereby advancing awareness and fostering connections with the Earth, community, and MoES on a daily basis.

MoES, under the leadership of Dr. M Ravichandran, Secretary, comprises a network of eleven institutes dedicated to translating science for public service in earth systems sciences. Through scientific research and international collaboration, MoES aims to enhance understanding and prediction of Earth system processes to support sustainable development and societal well-being.
