Jammu, 21st Feb. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu, marking a significant milestone in the healthcare infrastructure of the region.
Accompanied by Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Prime Minister Modi also launched and laid the foundation stone of various developmental projects, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the holistic development of the region.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the substantial growth in medical education and healthcare facilities in Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade. He emphasized that the establishment of 12 medical colleges and a substantial increase in MBBS and PG medical seats signify a transformative shift towards accessible and quality healthcare services for the people of the region. The inauguration of AIIMS Jammu, in particular, reflects the government’s commitment to providing specialized medical care closer to home, thus saving valuable time and resources for patients.
The Prime Minister reiterated his vision of India becoming a developed nation, or “Viksit Bharat,” by 2047, and stressed the importance of a developed Jammu and Kashmir in realizing this vision. He commended the rapid pace of infrastructure development across various sectors and urged all stakeholders to work towards achieving this shared goal.
Expressing his satisfaction, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, underscored the government’s dedication to AIIMS Jammu, from the laying of its foundation stone to its inauguration, in just five years. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauded the central government’s efforts in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, citing significant improvements in various sectors including health, education, security, and infrastructure.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir and credited Prime Minister Modi for driving ambitious projects to fruition. He highlighted the transformative impact of these initiatives in bridging developmental gaps and improving the quality of life for the residents of the region.
AIIMS Jammu, established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), aims to provide affordable specialized medical care and elevate medical education standards in the region. With state-of-the-art facilities and a patient-centric approach, AIIMS Jammu is poised to become a beacon of hope and a center of excellence in healthcare, research, and medical education.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Union Health Ministry, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, and representatives from implementing agencies, reaffirming the government’s collective commitment to the region’s development journey.
