Hyderabad, 17th Feb. The Telangana Legislative Assembly, on Friday, approved a resolution to conduct a comprehensive door-to-door household caste survey across the state.
Proposed by Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the resolution aims to gather socio-economic, educational, employment, political, and caste-related data to strategize and implement developmental plans for backward classes, SC and ST citizens, and other vulnerable segments of society.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy underscored the Congress party’s historical commitment to the welfare of minorities and weaker sections, citing the appointment of the Justice Rajinder Sachar-led panel by the UPA-1 government for the welfare of Muslim minorities.
Reddy affirmed his government’s dedication to advancing the economic, political, employment, and educational interests of backward classes, aligning with the vision of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka hailed the resolution as “historic,” emphasizing the need for equitable distribution of wealth and political power, as advocated by Rahul Gandhi.
The survey, Vikramarka stressed, would encompass all households, castes, and economic strata, laying the groundwork for substantial social, political, and economic reforms.
Acknowledging the resolution, Principal opposition BRS’s Working President and MLA K T Rama Rao urged for either judicial or statutory backing to ensure the effectiveness of the survey.
BJP member Payala Shankar, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, and other members also expressed their views on the resolution during the assembly session.
