Panaji, 17th Feb. Amidst recent developments, Amit Palekar, the chief of AAP’s Goa unit, clarified on Friday that there exists no discord between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), reiterating their commitment to contesting the upcoming elections together.
Speaking to PTI, Palekar emphasized that the alliance between the Congress and AAP remains solid. He addressed concerns stemming from AAP’s announcement of Venzy Viegas as its candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency, currently held by Congress’s Francisco Sardinha, stating it was part of their strategic electoral approach and not indicative of any rift within the opposition coalition.
Recognizing the detrimental effects of a split opposition vote, Palekar emphasized the importance of maintaining unity to counter the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) dominance in the state.
“We will ensure that our votes remain intact. We will not allow votes to be split, and this alliance can even continue for the 2027 Goa assembly elections,” Palekar affirmed.
Palekar disclosed that top leaders from AAP and Congress have recently engaged in discussions regarding seat-sharing in Goa. However, he refrained from divulging specifics, stating that details would be disclosed in due course.
Asserting the unwavering support of the entire AAP cadre for the alliance, Palekar addressed AAP’s previous stance during the 2022 Goa assembly polls, where they positioned a vote for Congress as indirectly benefiting the BJP. He noted that the landscape has shifted with the formation of the alliance, suggesting that Congress has regained its strength through its partnership with AAP.
