PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone for AIIMS, Rewari in Haryana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rewari in the presence of Bandaru Dattatreya, Governor of Haryana, on Friday.

The Prime Minister also marked the beginning of various other development projects in Haryana.

Attending the ceremony were Manohar Lal, Chief Minister of Haryana; Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (IC), Planning, Statistics and Programme Implementation, Ministry of Corporate Affairs; and Dushyant Chautala, Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana.

Expressing his enthusiasm, the Prime Minister emphasized the rapid transformation of India’s health sector to meet the growing aspirations of its people.

He highlighted the vision of Viksit Bharat and stressed the pivotal role of the health sector in achieving this vision by 2047. He stated, “Only a Viksit Haryana can lead to a Viksit Bharat,” underlining the integral link between infrastructure development and healthcare facilities in the nation’s development agenda.

The Prime Minister declared, “This foundation laying ceremony of AIIMS Rewari is in line with the Government’s commitment to prioritize public health infrastructure and strengthen citizen-centric health services through holistic development of the Health sector.”

He emphasized that AIIMS Rewari would not only address the healthcare needs of Haryana but also create employment opportunities for youth and provide avenues for medical education. Over the last decade, India has witnessed the approval of 15 new AIIMS and more than 300 new medical colleges, including one medical college in each district of Haryana.

Union Health Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, hailed the foundation stone laying of AIIMS in Rewari as a historic day for Haryana’s healthcare ecosystem. He asserted that it would significantly benefit the people of Haryana and neighboring states by ensuring access to high-quality and affordable healthcare.

Manohar Lal thanked the Union Government for fulfilling a long-cherished wish of the people of Rewari by establishing AIIMS in the region. He emphasized that AIIMS Rewari would provide valuable medical services not only to the people of South Haryana but also to the nearby regions of North Rajasthan.

Rao Inderjit Singh underscored the government’s commitment to enhance infrastructure development, including in the healthcare sector. He highlighted the expansion of the AIIMS network to 23 across the country, reflecting the government’s efforts to boost healthcare infrastructure.

Background:

The establishment of AIIMS, Rewari in Haryana has been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) scheme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. PMSSY aims to correct regional imbalances in specialized health services availability and enhance facilities for medical education. AIIMS Rewari, developed at a cost of Rs 1650 crore on 203 acres of land, includes a 750-bed hospital complex, medical and nursing colleges, AYUSH block, and other facilities. It will provide specialized care in various departments, benefiting the underprivileged population of remote areas.
