Mumbai, 17th Feb. Former Lok Sabha MP Milind Deora, who recently switched from Congress to Shiv Sena, praised the democratic ethos of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena while slamming Congress, PTI reported.
Speaking at the sidelines of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena’s convention in Kolhapur, Deora expressed his satisfaction with joining Shiv Sena, highlighting the party’s openness to allowing common workers to aspire for prominent positions. Deora said, “In my speech, I said CM Shinde is a living testimony of hard work paying. I am very happy that I joined the Shiv Sena, where a common party worker can dream of getting big posts.”
Deora, who is now the Sena’s Rajya Sabha candidate from Maharashtra, emphasized that both BJP and Shiv Sena exemplify democratic principles, in contrast to Congress.
“Both the BJP and Shiv Sena are democratic parties,” Deora said, who is the Sena’s Rajya Sabha candidate from Maharashtra.
He asserted that Congress lacked democratic values and expressed his contentment in being part of a party that upholds democratic ideals.
Furthermore, Deora criticized the opportunistic nature of both Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress, stating that their actions have led them into dire straits. He referred to the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, which came into being after Shiv Sena forged an alliance with Congress and NCP post-2019 Assembly polls.
Deora’s departure from Congress, ending a 55-year-long association with the party, came amid disagreements over candidature in the upcoming general election. Disappointed by Shiv Sena’s claim over the South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat, which he had represented previously, Deora made the decision to join Shinde-led Shiv Sena. His failed attempts to secure assurance from Congress further fueled his decision, particularly after his family’s long-standing legacy in representing the Mumbai South constituency.
