In the wake of recent political shifts within the Congress party, former leader and Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) President Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed dismay over the party’s trajectory, attributing its decline to the shortcomings and arrogance of certain individuals.

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Azad remarked that it’s regrettable to witness the grand old party’s decline due to the actions of a select few. He noted the departure of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan from the Congress as a significant setback for the party.

Azad refrained from delving further into the matter, citing his departure from the party, stating, “Now I do not want to say much on this because I have left the party. ‘Ab Vo Jaane Unka Kaam Jaane.’ [Let them go, let their work speak for them].” He emphasized Chavan’s significant contributions to the Congress, highlighting his familial legacy within the party and expressing concern over potential further departures.

“My legislative career started in Maharashtra… There is only one state, Maharashtra, where Congress could be revived. In other big states like UP and Bengal, Congress has ended. It is unfortunate that this party is coming to an end due to the weakness and arrogance of a few people,” Azad lamented.

Ashok Chavan’s recent exit from the Congress, followed by his joining of the BJP in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, underscored the shifting political landscape. Chavan cited his observation of the nation’s mood as a factor in his decision to switch parties, refraining from extensive commentary on Congress affairs.

“In politics, you need to understand the mood of the nation. Considering the mood of the people, I decided to join the BJP… Whatever happens in Congress, it will be their karma,” Chavan stated, emphasizing his respect for Sonia Gandhi while acknowledging his departure from the party.
