Union Minister Scindia Unveils New Terminal Building at Dehradun Airport

Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the state-of-the-art Terminal Building at Dehradun Airport from New Delhi on Wednesday. Puskar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, joined the event from Dehradun.

In his inaugural address, Scindia highlighted the meticulous planning behind the construction, which was executed in two phases to ensure uninterrupted operations. With the completion of both phases, the terminal’s area has expanded to 42,776 sqm, increasing its capacity tenfold.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing air connectivity, Shri Scindia announced the upgrade of three airports in Uttarakhand and the establishment of seven heliports across the state, with plans for further expansion in the coming years.

The Dehradun Airport, also known as Jolly Grant Airport, serves as a vital link for over 10 lakh passengers annually and plays a significant role in Uttarakhand’s tourism sector. The newly inaugurated terminal reflects a harmonious blend of culture, nature, and modern architecture, with design elements inspired by local heritage.

Key features of the terminal include 48 check-in counters, four conveyor belts, and 12 baggage X-ray machines, catering to the needs of passengers. Furthermore, the terminal is designed to be inclusive and accessible for all, with facilities such as ramps and specially designed restrooms for Divyangjans.

Present at the event were dignitaries including Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), Shri Naresh Bansal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Shri Brij Bhushan Gairola, Member of Legislative Assembly, and officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Uttarakhand government.
