Patna, 14th Feb. Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad asserted on Tuesday that the recent release of former Navy personnel detained in Qatar signifies India’s burgeoning influence on the world stage.
Prasad, a former Union minister, attributed this diplomatic success to the robust foreign policy spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that under Modi’s leadership, India’s geopolitical stature has significantly risen, as demonstrated by the successful repatriation of the ex-servicemen who returned home and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his personal intervention.
The release came after 46 days of imprisonment, during which their death sentences, handed down last October, were commuted to varying jail terms. Although the specific charges against the individuals were not disclosed by Qatari authorities or New Delhi, Prasad underscored the Indian government’s unwavering commitment to assisting its citizens in distress abroad.
Highlighting other instances of the government’s proactive approach, Prasad mentioned the successful evacuation of stranded students from Ukraine, Hindus from Afghanistan, and the repatriation of IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman from Pakistan.
Prasad also noted Prime Minister Modi’s considerable influence globally, pointing out that multiple Islamic nations have honored him with their highest accolades.
In addition to celebrating diplomatic victories, Prasad commented on the shifting dynamics of Indian politics, remarking on the departure of leaders from the Congress party. He asserted that the party’s diminishing influence signals its declining relevance in the Indian political landscape.
“People are increasingly disassociating themselves from the Congress party, and its remaining foundation is showing signs of fracture,” Prasad remarked, underscoring the changing political landscape in India.
