Guwahati, 14th Feb. Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom) at the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, inaugurated a two-day workshop on “5G Use Case Labs: Awareness and Pre-Commissioning Readiness” at IIT Guwahati.
Organized by the National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation, and Training (NTIPRIT), Ghaziabad, the workshop drew over 100 participants from approximately 30 institutions in the eastern region.
The workshop aims to foster innovation in 5G technology use cases, with a focus on setting up 100 5G Use Case Labs across India, including IIT Guwahati, funded by the Department of Telecommunications.
Dr. Neeraj Mittal emphasized the importance of academic institutions leveraging these labs to create new use cases, ensuring that the benefits of 5G technology reach every corner of society and contribute to India’s development.
K. Moses Chalai, Secretary NEC, addressed the participants, stressing the significance of leveraging 5G use cases for the development of Northeastern India. Industry representatives showcased various potential use cases of 5G, including solutions for civic amenities, water conservation, healthcare, and augmented reality/virtual reality applications.
Deliberations were held among faculty members, industry representatives, startups, researchers, students, and DoT officers, with participants visiting the IoT Lab at IIT Guwahati. Prof. Ratnajit Bhattacharjee from IIT Guwahati and Shri Atul Sinha, DDG NTIPRIT, also shared their insights during the inaugural session.
