Bharatiya Voter Base Grows to 96.88 Crore, Female Representation Surges by 15%

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the country will set a new record for the highest voter participation in the world. The results of the voter list revision for this Lok Sabha election show that 6% of new voters have been added. The share of women is higher in these. The total population of the country is composed of 66.76% of adults who vote. An update has been made to the voter list for the upcoming general elections by the Election Commission. According to the Commission, there are a total of 96.88 crore registered voters in the country. This voter count, which is the most significant in the world, will determine the next government in the nation.

 

According to the Commission, after a months-long intensive Special Summary Revision 2024 exercise with a qualifying date of January 1, 2024, the electoral rolls have been published in all the States and Union Territories. This includes the revision of voter lists in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam after the delimitation of constituencies. According to the data of the Commission, two million new voters in the age group of 18 to 29 years have registered. The total number of voters in the country has reached 96.88 crores, indicating a 6% increase since the 2019 general elections.

There has been an increase in women voter registration

According to the data released by the Commission, 89.6 million voters were registered in the 2019 elections. This time, there has been a significant increase in female voter registration. Their number has increased from 43.1 million to 47.1 million. More than 2.63 crore new voters have been added to the voter list. Of these, approximately 1.41 crore are women voters. This is 15% higher than the newly enrolled male voters (1.22 crore) The ratio of male to female is expected to increase from 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024.

 

Removal of the names of duplicate voters from the list

The Commission informs that following verification, the names of 1 crore, 65 lakh, 76 thousand, 654 deceased voters, permanently transferred voters, and duplicate voters have been removed from the voter list. Some of these include 67 lakh 82% dead voters, 75% permanent and 110% absent voters, and 22 lakh 51% duplicate voters.

Voters over the age of 80 years who exceed one crore

The Commission estimates that male voters are 49 crore 72 lakh 31 thousand 994 and female voters are 47 crore 15 lakh 41 thousand 888. The number of voters of third gender is 48 thousand 44, while the number of voters with disabilities is 88 lakh, comprising 35 thousand 449. There are 1 crore 84 lakh 81 thousand 610 voters under the age group of 18-19, and 19 crore 74 lakh 37 thousand 160 voters under the age group of 20-29. There are 1 crore 85 lakh 92 thousand 918 voters over the age of 80. The population over 100 years of age is 2,38,791. The voter population ratio is 66.76%.
