President Murmu Witnesses the Army Guard Battalion’s Ceremonial Change Over

New Delhi, 11th Feb.  Today, February 11, 2024, the 6th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment completed its tenure as the Ceremonial Army Guard Battalion and handed over the baton to the 1st Battalion of the 5th Gorkha Rifles. The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, witnessed the ceremony. The Army Guard Battalion is stationed at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

During her brief remarks on the occasion, the President expressed her gratitude to the officers and soldiers of the 6th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment for upholding the highest military traditions and giving their all while performing their duties at Rashtrapati Bhavan. After their illustrious 166-year history, she greeted the 1st Battalion of the 5th Gorkha Rifles and expressed confidence that they would create a new standard at Rashtrapati Bhavan during their tenure.

The ceremonial Army guard at Rashtrapati Bhavan is rotated among various infantry units in the Army. In addition to providing ceremonial guard duties at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Army Guard Battalion also participates in parades for Republic Day, Independence Day, and Beating the Retreat, among other significant events.
