Uttarakhand, 11th Feb. In an effort to quell violence in Haldwani, which broke out on February 8 following the demolition of a mosque and madrasa that was purportedly constructed on Nazool land, the Uttarakhand government has requested the deployment of additional central forces. Five people were killed and numerous others were injured in the incident.
Four companies of the Central Paramilitary Forces, each with roughly 100 soldiers, have reportedly been requested by the Home Ministry to uphold law and order in the Banbhoolpura region, which is the epicenter of the mob violence, according to officials.
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi sent the request to the Center. A magistrate’s investigation into the riots was mandated on Saturday. Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat will conduct a magisterial probe, according to an order issued by Chief Secretary Radha Raturi. He will report to the government within 15 days.
Additionally, the curfew has been lifted from the town’s outer areas but is still in effect in the Banbhoopura area. There are currently close to 1,100 security guards stationed throughout the town. Banbhoolpura’s shops are still closed, and the streets are empty.
Additionally, local internet services are still suspended in order to stop rumors from spreading via social media. Officials reported that during Thursday’s violence, 60 people were injured and six rioters were killed.
Five people have been detained in relation to the violence, and three First Information Reports have been filed against 5,000 unknown individuals thus far.
The primary conspirators in the case, according to the police, are SP leader Matin Siddiqui’s brother Javed Siddiqui, his unidentified son Abdul Malik, and the owner of Malik Ka Bagicha land.
Mehboob Alam, Zishan Parvez, Arshad Ahmed, Javed Siddiqui, and Aslam Chaudhary are among those detained, according to the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena of Nainital stated, “The police have started looking for an accused named Abdul Malik who had built the now-razed illegal structure and opposed its demolition most strongly.”
The corpses were discovered in hospitals the following day. The circumstances surrounding their death will be made clear by post-mortem and forensic examination reports, he said.
What Is the Land of Nazool?
Although nazool land is owned by the government, it is frequently not managed as state property. The state typically leases such property to any entity for a predetermined amount of time—between 15 and 99 years. The government may choose to either extend or terminate the lease at that point, reclaiming the Nazool land. Generally speaking, nazool land is utilized for public projects like constructing hospitals, schools, and Gram Panchayat structures.
