New Delhi, 9th Feb. The National Traders’ Welfare Board (NTWB) convened its second meeting at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi on Thursday, chaired by Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Textiles.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Goyal underscored the importance of the NTWB and its role in advancing the welfare of retail traders.
He highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to support traders, emphasizing the need for regular interactive sessions to inform traders about relevant schemes and policies and solicit their suggestions.
Chairman of NTWB, Sunil J. Singhi, shared that suggestions gathered from traders during outreach programs across 24 states have been forwarded to line ministries and departments for resolution.
He also informed about the request made to state governments to establish State Level Boards and District Level Committees for Retail Traders.
The meeting included a review of the action taken since the last meeting in December 2023, where members were briefed on DPIIT and other ministries’ initiatives for traders’ welfare.
Discussions centered on improving the effectiveness and scalability of these schemes, with members providing valuable inputs.
The meeting saw participation from members nominated by the Central Government, representing trade associations, states/UTs, and ex-officio members from nine ministries/departments of the Government of India.
