New Delhi, 7th Feb: Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme on Tuesday in New Delhi.
The event, attended by esteemed dignitaries including Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education K. Sanjay Murthy, and Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy Sanjay Kumar, marked a significant milestone in enhancing educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged students.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Pradhan underscored the program’s alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, emphasizing its role in fostering inclusivity and empowerment through education. He praised the exemplary achievements of Navodaya Vidyalaya students, noting their success in securing admissions to prestigious institutions without resorting to external coaching. Minister Pradhan announced that 70 students would receive scholarships totaling Rs. 5 crore, acknowledging the vital role of corporate sponsors in supporting academically gifted yet financially constrained students.
Secretary Sanjay Murthy highlighted the initiative’s inception in tandem with NEP 2020, emphasizing its focus on channeling philanthropy towards the education sector. He commended the contributions of both JNV students and sponsoring organizations, expressing optimism for increased participation from the private sector.
In his address, Sanjay Kumar lauded the consistent academic performance of Navodaya Vidyalaya students, emphasizing the pivotal role of quality education in overcoming socio-economic barriers. He announced plans for Summer Camps aimed at enhancing students’ skills, inviting further support from sponsors.
During the event, Minister Pradhan engaged with JNV students and corporate CSR sponsors, showcasing the collaborative spirit driving the initiative. Significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged between CSR sponsors, including Fiat India, HDFC Bank Limited, ClearMedi Healthcare, Bharat Forge, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, underlining the synergy between government and private sector efforts towards national development.
The launch of the Vidyanjali Fintech Platform further underscores the program’s innovative approach to extending educational opportunities. Minister Pradhan presented scholarship letters to six meritorious NVS students, symbolizing the program’s commitment to empowering future generations.
