According to TOLO News, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom has advised British nationals not to travel to Afghanistan.

In an FCDO statement, it is stated that during the month of Ramadan, there is a “significant risk of detention of British nationals” and that “terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks” in Afghanistan.

The text of the statement said, “You ought not to visit Afghanistan. There’s a good chance that terrorists will attempt to launch attacks in Afghanistan. Terrorist attacks are more likely to occur in or near places of worship as well as during religious festivals and events, like Ramadan.”

Afghanistan’s security situation is unstable. Terrorist attacks remain a serious and persistent threat throughout Afghanistan, especially in the vicinity of airports. British nationals run a serious risk of being detained, the statement continued.

However, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban, stated that both national security and foreign national safety are guaranteed, according to TOLO News.

“We guarantee that there is no threat to any foreign national in Afghanistan,” stated Mujahid. Numerous organizations, including Embassies and international institutions, as well as tourists, reside in Afghanistan and travel there; there has never been, and will never be, a security threat to anyone.”

In the meantime, a few political commentators have urged the Taliban to take further steps to ensure the safety of foreign visitors to the nation.

Salim Paigir, a political analyst, stated that “the Islamic Emirate should choose a correct and rational policy towards the world and listen to all the demands of the eastern and western countries.”

Political analyst Sayed Moqadam Amin told TOLO News that “they should convince western and neighboring countries that Afghanistan will never be a threat to the countries of the region.” The US State Department had earlier advised its citizens not to visit Afghanistan.
