Jangipur, 2nd Feb. The Congress party’s hope of reaching a seat-sharing agreement with the TMC in West Bengal has been rejected by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She expressed her intention to unite regional parties after the elections to strategize government formation at the Centre.
Despite efforts by the Congress to reconcile with the TMC, its general secretary Jairam Ramesh remains hopeful about reaching a mutually acceptable arrangement.
Banerjee stated that her party was keen on forming an alliance with the Congress, but it was the Congress that rejected her proposal.
She accused the Congress and Left of collaborating to aid the BJP in the upcoming elections.
Banerjee announced that her party would contest all 42 Lok Sabha seats alone in the state.
The Congress expressed hope for a seat-sharing deal with the TMC, while Ramesh remained confident in getting the TMC along in the Lok Sabha polls.
In the 2019 elections, TMC secured 22 seats, Congress won two, and the BJP won 18 seats in the state.
Tensions escalated when the TMC’s offer of two seats was deemed insufficient. The TMC had previously allied with the Congress in various elections, leading to the ousting of the CPI(M)-led Left Front government.
