Raipur, 1st Feb.
The BJP government in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday announced a new welfare scheme for married women.

Under the scheme, called ‘Mahtari Vandan Yojana’, married women will receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000. This scheme was approved by the state cabinet and was one of the promises made by the BJP before the assembly elections last year.

In addition to this, the government has also decided to increase the remuneration for collecting tendu leaves. The amount will be raised from Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,500 per standard sack. Tendu leaves are used as wrappers for beedis.

These decisions were made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

The ‘Mahtari Vandan Yojana’ aims to eliminate discrimination against women, improve their health and nutrition, and promote women empowerment and economic self-reliance.

It will provide Rs 1,000 per month to married women through Direct Benefit Transfer. Eligible beneficiaries include married women above the age of 21 who are residents of Chhattisgarh, as well as widows, divorced, and abandoned women who meet the criteria.

Furthermore, the cabinet also decided to introduce a new social security scheme for tendu leaf collectors.

Additionally, the government plans to implement the Bharat (BH) series vehicle registration in Chhattisgarh, which requires two and four-wheelers to pay tax for two years in advance.
