New Delhi, 31st Jan. The Sixteenth Finance Commission was constituted on December 31, 2023, with Shri Arvind Panagariya, former Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, as its Chairman.
The following members have now been appointed to the Commission with the approval of the President of India:
1. Shri Ajay Narayan Jha, former member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission and former Secretary of Expenditure – Full-time Member
2. Smt. Annie George Mathew, former Special Secretary of Expenditure – Full-time Member
3. Dr. Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, Executive Director of Artha Global – Full-time Member
4. Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Advisor of State Bank of India – Part-time Member
The terms of reference of the Commission were announced on December 31, 2023.
The Sixteenth Finance Commission has been requested to submit its recommendations by October 31, 2025, covering a five-year award period starting from April 1, 2026.
