January 25th holds great significance for Bharatiya tourism, both nationally and globally. To promote tourism in Bharat, National Tourism Day is observed on this date every year in January. In fact, Bharat celebrates Tourism Day twice a year, on January 25th and September 27th. The celebrations began in 1948, just a year after the nation got independence. The Tourism Traffic Committee was established to promote tourism in Bharat. In 1951, Regional Offices of Tourism Day were set up in Chennai and Kolkata. Later, tourism offices were opened in Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi. In 1998, the Tourism Department was established under the leadership of the Minister of Tourism and Communications.

This year, “Sustainable Travels, Untimely Memories” is the subject for Tourism Day (2024). This theme places a strong emphasis on the idea of mindful and careful travel. The theme for 2022 was “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” while the topic for the previous year was “Rural and Community Focused Tourism.”

There are linguistic, dialectal, cultural, and traditional differences across the nation’s 28 states and eight union territories. While some states are located in mountainous regions surrounded by verdant valleys, others are blanketed with snow. Certain plains have sandy expanses with woods covering them, while other plains are endowed with lakes and waterfalls. The states of South Bharat are located along the shore. Many of these tourist destinations, which are significant from a religious and historical standpoint, are found in plains, mountains, and seacoasts. The populace in a nation with such a high degree of diversity is unfamiliar with these differences and cultures. The government stresses that citizens ought to be aware of and cognizant of their nation.

Recognizing that tourism contributes to a portion of the nation’s GDP is crucial. Promoting tourism can raise employment and the GDP of the nation. One effective way to show the world how affluent Bharat is is through tourism. Bharat becomes the centre of attention for the entire world as a result. The purpose of Tourism Day, observed worldwide, is to raise public awareness of the social, political, economic, and cultural benefits of tourism.
