Bhubaneswar, 23rd Jan. In the districts of Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur in Odisha, many parents have decided to name their babies born on the day of the Ram temple consecration as Ram and Sita.
On January 22, at least six babies, both boys and girls, were born in government-run and private hospitals in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. Their parents, overwhelmed by the Lord Ram ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony, chose to name them after Lord Ram and Devi Sita.
Traditionally, in Odisha, it is customary to name a child on the 21st day after their birth, following a puja. However, the parents, deeply moved by the consecration ceremony, decided to name their newborns Ram and Sita.
“This is a significant day for all followers of Sanatan Dharma. For us, it is even more special because of the new addition to our family,” said Priyanka Mallick (24), who gave birth to a baby girl.
Priyanka’s daughter was born around 1 pm at the Kendrapara district headquarters hospital, shortly after the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
“To commemorate this historic day, we have chosen to name our daughter Sita,” said Narayan, the father of the newborn.
Many parents were delighted to have their child born on this auspicious day.
Renubala Rout (24) was overjoyed after giving birth to a baby boy on Monday at a private nursing home in Kendrapara town.
“I am now the father of a baby boy on the day of the Ram temple consecration ceremony. His birth on this auspicious day has filled us with joy. We have decided to name our son Ram,” said Ajay, Renubala’s husband.
Similar instances of parents naming their newborns Ram and Sita, born on January 22, are being reported from various parts of the state.
