Nikki questioned Trump’s mental competence, as Trump calls her Pelosi

New Delhi, 21th Jan. Nikki Haley, a Republican candidate and former US President’s rival in the upcoming US Presidential elections, questioned whether 77-year-old Donald Trump is “mentally capable” of serving as president again after he repeatedly appeared to confuse her with former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a campaign speech.

As she campaigned in Keene, New Hampshire, Haley cited Trump’s speech the night before, in which he incorrectly claimed that Haley was in charge of Capitol security on January 6, 2021, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the building to prevent the certification of his loss to Democrat Joe Biden.

Trump originally stated that Haley rejected his administration’s security offer on January 6, and then addressed Haley again, saying, ‘They destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, erased and destroyed all of it.’ Trump has accused “Pelosi” of rejecting down security that he claims his administration offered, although a special House committee appointed to investigate the attack found no evidence to back up that assertion. ‘They say he got confused and was talking about something else, but he’s talking about Nancy Pelosi,’ Haley said on Saturday.

He referenced me several times in that circumstance. The problem I have is — I’m not saying anything negative — but when dealing with the pressures of the presidency, we can’t have someone else who we wonder whether they’re mentally fit to do this,” Haley said. ‘We cannot.’

“It’s Nikki and Nancy,” Trump told reporters.

At a Bloomberg News discussion in Manchester on Saturday, Haley campaign manager Betsy Ankney cited Haley’s remarks, saying Trump “made a pretty obvious gaffe last night.”‘ “It’s a distinction without a difference. “It’s Nikki and Nancy,” Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita told reporters on Saturday night. What’s the difference? At his rally in Manchester on Saturday night, Trump claimed to have ‘aced’ a cognitive test.

‘I’ll let you know if I go bad. I honestly think I’ll be able to tell you,” he said. ‘I believe my thinking is stronger today than it was 25 years ago. Is this possible? Trump, who won Monday’s Iowa caucuses and is currently the GOP front-runner, chose Haley to serve as his United Nations ambassador and has increased his criticism of her campaign as the year’s elections have begun.

On Saturday, he campaigned in New Hampshire with a large contingent of supporters from Haley’s home state of South Carolina, including Gov. Henry McMaster and numerous U.S. House members. A day earlier, Sen. Tim Scott, who halted his own 2024 run in November and was appointed to the Senate by Haley in 2012, endorsed Trump over Haley in his own stirring call-and-response speech in New Hampshire. Since entering the Republican candidacy about a year ago, Haley, 52, has advocated for mental competency tests’ for senior lawmakers, a dig at Trump and Biden’s ages.
