New Delhi, 19th Jan. The Directorate of Estates, which is part of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, sent a team on Friday to evict former Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from her official residence in Delhi.
Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha last month, had requested a stay on the eviction proceedings, but her plea was denied by the Delhi High Court on Thursday.
The eviction was scheduled to take place at 9B Telegraph Lane, the house that was assigned to Moitra when she became an MP in 2019.
Moitra has denied these allegations.
Additionally, she was accused of sharing her login ID and password for the Lok Sabha portal with the businessman. Moitra had filed a petition with the high court against the eviction, arguing that her plea against the expulsion was still pending before the Supreme Court. However, Justice Girish Kathpalia stated that there was no specific rule regarding the eviction of former MPs from government accommodation. Therefore, the court dismissed Moitra’s application, stating that she had no right to the accommodation at this stage.
The Directorate of Estates had issued an eviction notice to Moitra on January 8th, as per the rule that an allottee of residential accommodation must vacate the premises within one month of becoming ineligible. The department sent her another notice earlier this week, demanding immediate vacation of the bungalow.
