Six People Killed as Fire Engulfs Multi-Storey Building in Delhi

Six people were killed and one person was injured when a fire broke out in a multi-storey building in northwest Delhi’s Pitampura area on Thursday evening, according to officials.

The cause of the fire, which started on the first floor of the building, is still unknown.

Authorities received a call at 8 pm about the blaze at plot no. 37, ZP block, Pitampura, and eight fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene.

With the help of local police, seven people were rescued and taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. Unfortunately, six of them, including four women, were pronounced dead at the hospital, as confirmed by a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official.

Another DFS officer stated that the fire was extinguished within an hour and the cooling operation was in progress.

A police officer reported that the fire originated on the first floor and the smoke spread to the three floors above it.

Preliminary information suggests that the victims belonged to two different families and their ages ranged from 25 to 60.

The ground floor of the building served as a parking area, while people resided on the remaining floors.

Police stated that further investigation is currently underway.
