Haflong, 13th Jan. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained its power in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) in Assam. The party secured 25 out of the 30 seats in the governing body of Dima Hasao district.
The vote counting process, which used ballot papers, started at 8 am and concluded late in the evening.
The BJP won 25 seats, including six that were uncontested.
The current chief executive member of NCHAC, Debolal Garlosa, won from the Dehangi constituency.
Independent candidates secured three seats.
Out of the 30 members of NCHAC, 28 are elected and two are nominated.
The 13th NCHAC election took place on January 8, with a voter turnout of 85.78%.
The polling process was peaceful and conducted across 231 polling stations in 22 constituencies of Dima Hasao district.
