Chennai, 8th Jan. Heavy rain in parts of the Chennai district on Sunday evening resulted in severe traffic congestion and slow-moving vehicles for commuters.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted rain in various districts of Tamil Nadu for the next seven days.
The RMC also forecasts heavy rain in isolated areas of ten districts in the state for Sunday.
According to the RMC, heavy rain is expected in Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli districts, and Puducherry.
Over the weekend, heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats caused a flash flood at the Old Courtallam Falls in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu.
As a result, tourists are not allowed to bathe near the water bodies adjacent to the Old Courtallam Falls, a popular tourist spot in the district.

Many disappointed tourists visited the waterfalls, unaware of the bathing restrictions on weekends.
Tamil Nadu has experienced unprecedented rainfall recently.
Initially, Cyclone Michaung brought heavy rain to Chennai and surrounding areas, causing significant damage.
More recently, the southern districts of Tamil Nadu have also seen heavy rainfall.
These rains have resulted in extensive damage to public and private property, amounting to crores of rupees.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has requested 12,000 crore rupees in central assistance and immediate relief of 7,300 crore rupees for flood damages.
