Video of Bihar Cop Thrashing Dalit Woman Goes Viral; District Police Launches Investigation

A video showing a Bihar police officer allegedly thrashing a woman in public has sparked widespread condemnation after it went viral on social media.

The incident occurred in the Sursand area of Sitamarhi district on Saturday, but the video gained attention on social media on Monday.

In the video, Inspector Raj Kishore Singh from Sursand police station can be seen hitting a middle-aged woman with a stick in public, while others watched.

The authenticity of the video could not be independently verified by the PTI news agency.

Local residents claim that the woman sustained injuries from the police officer’s actions and was subsequently admitted to a private nursing home for treatment, while the police deny that she was injured.

The police assert that Singh was attempting to break up a fight between two women on the road, as locals demand action against the inspector.

The police state that the fight broke out between the two women in relation to a kidnapping case, causing a traffic jam outside the police station.

A statement released by the district police on Monday reads: “An investigation into the incident has been initiated. Action will be taken against the police officer stationed at Sursand police station once the report is received. A sub-divisional police officer has been assigned to investigate the incident and verify the authenticity of the video.”
