New Delhi, 21st Dec. Sanjay Singh, who was a close aide of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has been elected as the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
The elections, which had been postponed several times earlier this year, took place on Thursday, December 21 in New Delhi. The voting process was followed by the counting of votes.
This election not only determines the leadership of the Wrestling Federation of India but also allows the global wrestling body, United World Wrestling, to lift the suspension it had imposed on the WFI.
The UWW had suspended the WFI because they failed to hold elections within the deadline set in August.
As a result, Indian wrestlers had to compete as neutral athletes in international events during the past few months.
