Bhubaneswar, 9th May. Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal demanded a report from the state government on the nine-minute power outage that occurred during President Droupadi Murmu’s speech at a university convocation in Baripada on Monday.

The governor, who is also the chancellor of the universities, directed Chief Secretary P K Jena and Santosh Tripathy, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University, to submit a detailed report on the power outage in the auditorium on May 6 while the President was delivering her speech.

The governor has asked the authorities for a report within seven days.

Tripathy confirmed getting a letter from the Raj Bhavan and stated that he will respond on Tuesday.

Lal was in the auditorium when the lights went out during the President’s speech. Murmu continued to deliver her speech despite the fact that the auditorium had gone dark for nine minutes.

However, the air conditioners, microphones, and fans in the auditorium were operational during the blackout, which lasted from 11.56 a.m. until 12.05 p.m.

While the incident has sparked a political row in the state, with the BJP demanding an apology from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, MSCBU officials suspected that the blackout was caused by sabotage.
