Alluri Seetha Ramaraju, 12th Dec: A major road tragedy struck Andhra Pradesh early Friday when a private bus lost control and plunged into a valley on the Chintur–Maredumilli ghat road in Alluri Seetha Ramaraju district. Initial reports confirm that eight passengers have died, while several others sustained critical injuries.

Police said the bus, carrying 35 passengers and two drivers, was en route from Bhadrachalam to Annavaram when the accident occurred. Preliminary findings indicate that overspeeding on the steep ghat section caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle hurtling down the valley.

Chintur police rushed to the spot along with local residents, who assisted in pulling out injured passengers from the wreckage. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities warned that the death toll could rise as several victims are in serious condition.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and further details are awaited.
