New Delhi, 23rd Jan. The 60 Parachute Field Hospital in Uttar Pradesh has been selected for the SC Bose Aapda Prabandhan award for its outstanding work in disaster management, according to the Union Home Ministry.
The award, which is given annually on January 23, carries a cash prize of Rs 51 lakh for institutions and Rs 5 lakh for individuals, along with a certificate.
The 60 Parachute Field Hospital, established in 1942, is the only airborne medical establishment of the Indian Armed Forces and has been recognized for its exceptional service in various global crises.
Its primary mission is to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief during natural calamities, both nationally and internationally, in times of peace and war.
The hospital has provided medical assistance during events such as the Uttarakhand floods in 2013, the Nepal earthquake in 2015, and the Indonesian tsunami in 2018.
In February 2023, the hospital rapidly assembled a team and set up a medical facility in Turkey to respond to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
During a 12-day period, the hospital provided a range of medical services to 3,600 patients as part of ‘Operation Dost’.
