Ambala, 20th April. A total of 54 trains on the Ambala-Amritsar route were cancelled on Saturday as farmers continued their protest by sitting on the tracks at the Shambhu railway station in Punjab’s Patiala district for the fourth consecutive day.
The protestors are demanding the release of three farmers who were arrested by the Haryana Police during the protest.
Railway officials confirmed that 54 trains were cancelled on Saturday due to the ongoing farmers protest, which has disrupted the movement of 380 trains over the past three days, causing inconvenience to passengers.
Under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), farmers have been protesting in Shambhu, Patiala district.
They initiated their protest on Wednesday by blocking the tracks on the Ambala-Ludhiana-Amritsar route in Shambhu near the Punjab-Haryana border to demand the release of the arrested farmers.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that the protest will continue until the three farmers are released.
The SKM (Non-Political) and the KMM are leading the Delhi Chalo march to urge the government to meet their demands, which include a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.
Since February 13, the farmers have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana after their march was halted by security forces.
